Get off the beaten track and discover New Zealand’s third island - unspoilt, tranquil and stunning.

Stewart Island is located 1 hours ferry ride off the south coast of the South Island. The island is a natural sanctuary and one of the only parts of the country where seeing kiwi on the beach during the day is possible. Large parts of the island form part of the Rakiura National Park which is popular for single or multi day hikes.

The island has limited accommodation with Stewart Island Lodge being one of the picks with stunning views of Halfmoon Bay and Oban. If you are fan of seafood or local venison this is the place for you.

Stewart Island is accessible by air from Invercargill or by ferry from Bluff, Endeavour NZ Itinerary Specialists can make these arrangements for you.

Ulva Island is a popular wildlife sanctuary found in Paterson’s Inlet, this is a beautiful tour where you get up close to some of beautiful native birds and hear the birdsong of what New Zealand was like, as a country, prior to human settlement. Other tours are available for kiwi viewing in the evenings and night time.

Stewart Island is a bucket list item for many New Zealanders and a stunning destination for a few days to completely get away from normal life and switch in to island time. You might even find a local band playing in the pub to enjoy an evening or dinner at Churchill Restaurant, try the local Muttonbird (Titi) for something a bit different.
